SOLD Deep Brown/Red 3"+ Spinosaurus Tooth Dinosaur Fossil Morocco
For sale is a great fat Spinosaurus dinosaur tooth from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco. It has a deep brown/red color which makes this tooth particularly appealing. The condition is excellent and it would make a great addition to any fossil collection. The tooth measures a touch over 3" in length.
Spinosaurus is now known to be probably the most uniquely adapted dinosaur yet discovered. It has a huge sail on its back made by extensions in the vertebral processes, large arms with huge recurved claws as well as shorter legs with flat paddle-like claws. This animal was adapted to swimming in water as well as walking on land. It had a long snout full of conical non-serrated teeth suggesting it was a fish eater, prowling the banks of seas and rivers hunting for various animals.
This tooth was found outside the city of Taouz Morocco along a cliff facing which separates Morocco from Algeria. This area is known as the Kem Kem Beds and dates back to the Cretaceous Period about 95 million years in age. The amazing thing is that this area used to be a lush tropical environment full of life. All of the waterways and river systems created a perfect environment for teeth, claws and bones to become fossilized.
If the tooth is purchased a COA can be provided upon request and a black and white copy of an informational flyer about the Cretaceous of Morocco and the Kem Kem Beds. Also, after purchase I will send you a Word document that has the informational pamphlet in high resolution color so you can print it for free as well and use it to display your new fossils!
The Kem Kem Beds (also referred to by various names including the Continental Red Beds and Continental intercalaire) is a geological formation along the border between Morocco and Algeria in southeastern Morocco, whose strata date back to the Late Cretaceous. Dinosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation. Recent fossil evidence in the form of isolated large abelisaurid bones and comparisons with other similarly aged deposits elsewhere in Africa indicates that the fauna of the Kem Kem Beds (specifically in regard to the numerous predatory theropod dinosaurs) may have been mixed together due to the harsh and changing geology of the region when in reality they would likely have preferred separate habitats and likely would be separated by millions of years.
Fossils from this lush tropical environment include top predators such as Carcharodontosaurus, Spinosaurus, Deltadromeus, Sarchosuchus (Super Croc) as well as smaller Dromaeosaur or Raptor-like dinosaurs. Also present are various sauropods including Rebbachisaurus (a Titanosaur) as well as other herbivorous dinosaurs. In the water were large armor plated fish, sawfish and even the semi-aquatic Spinosaurus hunting them. In the skies were a variety of pterosaur flying reptiles which sometimes are present in the fossil record of this formation.
