I am a huge believer that all natural history should be open to the American public. Badlands National Park preserves incredible fossils for people to see but they will inevitably be lost to history due to natural geologic processes. All National Parks have their purposes but sometimes they miss the mark. Fossils don't rejuvenate or change over time, they are what they are. By protecting them parks like BNP is also destroying them. I know it sounds very doom and gloom but the reality is if people are not actively collecting as amateurs most fossil specimens would have never been discovered. The following photos are some I snapped on a 2 hour hike at Badlands National Park. (Also, this park is incredibly beautiful by the way!)
