SOLD! Rooted Tyrannosaurus Rex Tooth Dinosaur Fossil Hell Creek Formation SD Ex Rare!
This listing is for a really rare rooted Tyrannosaurus rex tooth from the Hell Creek Formation of Perkins County, SD.
Rooted theropod teeth almost never go up for sale, but a rooted Tyrannosaur tooth from Hell Creek is even more scarce! What makes this tooth especially unique is its size. The tooth is not from an adult animal and based on the shape looks to be from a rear position in the jaw of the animal.
This tooth measures just a touch under 1 1/4" in length.
The way you can be sure this is Tyrannosaur and not Dromaeosaur is the fact that the serrations are the exact same size and shape on both edges of the tooth.
The tooth has excellent beautifully colored enamel and crisp serrations. This tooth is most likely from a juvenile (young) Tyrannosaurus Rex! There is still a debate of whether there was only one (T Rex) or two (T Rex and Nanotyrannus) Tyrannosaurid dinosaurs in the Hell Creek ecosystem but it seems like opinion is moving towards the one Tyrannosaur (T Rex) theory.
That means this is an extremely rare rooted juvenile tooth from the Tyrant Lizard King herself! Of course, there is always the possibility that Nanotyrannus is a valid genus when more specimens come to light but that is the beauty of the science of paleontology, new evidence is constantly being discovered to clarify these debates!
The tooth comes with its own gem display case and informational card and truly makes a world class addition to any fossil collection.
