SOLD!This listing is for a beautiful museum quality Oreodont skull from the White River Formation badlands of South Dakota. It was professionally prepped and mounted on its own display stand.
The fossil can be rotated on the stand and is very stable. The preservation of the bones and teeth is some of the best I have seen for this species and location.
Oreodonts were a medium sized mammal that lived during the Oligocene Epoch dating back to approximately 30 million years ago. The scientific name for Oreodonts is Merycoidodontoidea and are also sometimes referred to as "ruminating hog" which is a reference to how they are thought to have digested food.
The skull measures 9" in length on a straight line.
